Pixar, the animation studio that delivered hits like Coco, Finding Nemo, Cars, Up, Wall-E, Brave, and Ratatouille has announced yet another original: Soul. And what better time to release an animated film than summer? So, yes, Soul is all set to hit the big screen in the summer of 2020- June 19, to be precise.

Here’s What We Know About Soul

As you can see, according to Disney, Soul will take us “on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.” Now, this does not really reveal much about the movie itself, but we can always guess. This is New York we are talking about! The spirit of the city itself is enough to make the movie more than interesting. And Disney’s talking of taking us on a “journey to the cosmic realms”. Do we need anything other than the amazingly magical combination of New York, and the supposed cosmic realms? Apparently, yes. Pixar just doesn’t stop surprising us. Talk about interesting.

Pixar Soul
Pete Docter is set to write and direct ‘Soul’, Pixar’s next, set to release June 2020.

Writing and directing the movie is the Pixar Animation Studios’ chief creative officer, Pete Docter. Interestingly enough, he’s also won the Oscar. Twice. Nice. He’s got more feathers in his hat, though. These include Up, Wall-E, Inside Out, Monster, Inc., Toy Story 2, Toy Story 4, and Mike’s New Car. The last one had also earned him a nomination at the Oscars.

The cast of this movie hasn’t yet been disclosed. But we do know that Dana Murray will be producing Soul. Now, she, too, has a number of Pixar hits like Up, Inside Out, Cars 3, and Brave under her belt. She, too, was nominated for the Oscars in the Best Animated Short Film category for Lou.

Soul is also about to be Pixar’s very first film set in New York. Just the title art’s out, and Soul has already reached a completely different level of interesting. One thing’s clear- Soul certainly won’t disappoint.

Whew! All of this definitely guarantees yet another hit for Pixar. But looks like Soul has competition. Warner Bros. is set to release its feature adaptation of the Broadway musical In The Heights on June 19, too! Oh, and not to forget Universal’s upcoming comedy starring Pete Davidson! Now, this is going to be a battle to look forward to.
